Based on Vilhelm Moberg’s novel, director Marie Nikazm Bakken and scenographer Julia Herskovits present a wild and extravagant take on Sweden’s number one national epic. What unfolds is a more-is-more celebration for all the senses: a maximalist visual feast overflowing with bodily fluids, headscarves, and relentless scene changes. It is a dirty fever dream of priests, prostitutes, clogs, and lice crossing an endless sea.
